CJ Group's Environmental Management Policy
Responding to Climate Change
Acknowledging that the climate crisis is a collective challenge for the earth, the company plans to actively combat the climate crisis by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, expanding new and renewable energy, building and supporting low-carbon supply chains and expanding low-carbon product services.
Practicing Circular Economy
To address challenges such as resource depletion and environmental pollution, the company strives to optimize resource use, increase recycling, and expand sustainable sourcing of raw and auxiliary materials, as well as recyclable products and services, across all business operations.

OLIVE YOUNG operates the BEAUTY CYCLE campaign to reuse discarded plastic cosmetic containers and is seeking various ways for sustainable resource circulation.

OLIVE YOUNG strives to reduce plastic usage throughout the entire process, from packaging of our private label, ONLYONE to store operation and delivery packaging.

OLIVE YOUNG precisely monitors environmental impacts resulting from its operations and conducts carbon footprint reduction initiatives across the online and offline platform services.

01 OLIVE YOUNG
BEAUTY CYCLE

Introducing BEAUTY CYCLE

Cosmetic containers are difficult to recycle due to their complex designs and residual content, requiring separate sorting and processing procedures. Since 2021, Olive Young has operated the BEAUTY CYCLE, a customer participation campaign where discarded cosmetic containers are collected for reuse.

01 Sustainable Store

Olive Young is enhancing the sustainability of in-store shopping through initiatives such as issuing smart receipts, adopting electronic labels, and promoting the use of reusable bags.

  • Smart Receipts

Olive Young introduced the smart receipt service in 2015 as part of the CJ Group's policy to reduce the use of paper receipts. Customers can check their smart receipts on the Olive Young or the CJ ONE app.

  • Electronic Labels

Olive Young is striving to save resources by transitioning from disposable paper labels, used for Olive Young Sale, discount promotions and product replacements, to electronic labels. With the goal of expanding the application of electronic labels to all stores, the company plans to continue its efforts to reduce waste.

  • Reusable Bags

Olive Young created reusable bags and pouches from recycled plastic bottles, offering them at newly opened stores. Specifically, the reusable bags and pouches introduced in April 2024 were made from approximately 340,000 recycled PET bottles, allowing customers to easily take part in Olive Young's resource circulation efforts.

02 Reduction of
Logistics Waste

Olive Young is reducing waste by introducing recycled paper cushioning, easily recyclable paper tape and one-touch box packaging. In particular, one-touch boxes were partially used for orders during the September 2024 OLIVE YOUNG Sale, and the company plans to increase their usage in the future. This approach also minimizes resource waste from excessive split delivery by implementing the combined shipping policy, except for items that require careful handling or are non-combinable. This also reduces packaging waste such as excess boxes and cushioning, and cuts fuel consumption during delivery by increasing loading efficiency.

  • Easily Recyclable Paper Tape

Using paper tape made from biodegradable and recyclable paper materials

    Using natural rubber adhesives

  • Paper Cushioning Made from Recycled Paper

Switching from vinyl (synthetic resin) to paper (recycled)

  • One-Touch Box

Using three-sided adhesive boxes that do not require bottom taping

We analyze the volume of each customer order to recommend the optimal box size, thereby minimizing excessive packaging and cushioning materials.

01 GHG Monitoring

Building Greenhouse Gas Inventory

In 2022, Olive Young established a greenhouse gas inventory in accordance with CJ Group's greenhouse gas emission calculation guidelines. The company has managed Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2021 and plans to set further reduction goals and develop specific strategies through continuous monitoring.

02 Lowering Carbon
Footprint

Shortens last-mile delivery distances through O2O services such as Oneul Drim and actively encourages eco-friendly delivery methods such as walking and bicycles. Additionally, in partnership with DHL Korea, the company uses sustainable aviation fuel to reduce its carbon footprint in overseas delivery.

Reducing Carbon Footprint Through O2O Services 2)

  • Foot Delivery

Oneul Drim orders within 1.5km are delivered by walking. As of 2023, the average delivery distance was 780m, with the deliveries made on foot or by bicycle.

  • Pickup Service

Customers picking up directly from stores replaces delivery by motorcycle or car. The average delivery distance per case for motorcycle delivery is 1.5km, and store pickups reduce environmental impact of last-mile delivery by this amount.

  • Micro-Fulfillment Centers (MFC)

MFCs have enhanced customer accessibility and significantly shortened the distance from existing distribution centers to customers. By 2025, the company intends to lower its carbon footprint by adding over 20 MFCs in regional hubs and smaller cities.

2) Carbon footprint reduction is estimated based on the number of orders in 2023 only for walking delivery or pickup service. For each delivery, it is assumed that walking or pickup has replaced motorcycle delivery. It is assumed that 1km of driving by motorcycle emits 114g of carbon dioxide. Use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Olive Young has partnered with DHL Korea to use the 'GoGreen Plus' service, powered by sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), for deliveries of Olive Young Global Mall products sold across 57 countries worldwide. SAF is an alternative fuel made from waste cooking oil and animal- or plant-based oils. Emitting up to 80% less carbon dioxide than conventional aviation fuel, it can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 19.6 tons per month — amounting to about 215 tons per year.3)

3) The estimated greenhouse gas reduction is based on DHL Korea’s SAF calculation methodology over an 11-month period.
